One of the first surgeons in the United States to undertake Laparo-Endoscopic Single Site (LESS) surgery, Dr. Ross was voted a Patient Preferred Surgeon by the Patient Preferred Physicians and Surgeons in 2020. Highly sought after for her expertise, she has participated as a presenter, moderator, or key-note speaker at over 100 events. She has authored over 110 peer-reviewed publications and 30 news articles. Dr. Ross has given over 160 operative videos presentations in addition to over 100 oral presentations. She serves on the editorial board of several surgical journals, including the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Research, the ISRN Minimally Invasive Surgery, Annals of Surgery, the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Surgical Endoscopy, the Journal of the Society of Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeons. In 2018, she was awarded the Nina Starr Braunwald Award by the Association of Women Surgeons. Dr. Ross feels that her success is primarily attributable to having support from her family, having great mentors, as well as being focused and goal oriented. Sharona B. Ross, MD, FACS, attended the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, D.C., and received her medical degree in 2001. Her general surgery residency followed at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine (2001-2006), where she earned her Advanced Gastrointestinal Surgery, HepatoPancreaticoBiliary (HPB) and Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) Fellowship. Furthermore, Dr. Ross conducted her fellowship in gastroenterology within the Division of Digestive Disorders and Nutrition in the Department of Medicine at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. In addition, he completed his fellowship training in hematology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition, Dr. Ross received board certification in general surgery from the American Board of Surgery.
